Top Four Air Conditioner Concerns

by | Nov 6, 2015 | Heating and Air Conditioning

Whether it’s summer or winter, humid or dry, an air conditioner can be a costly expense if something goes wrong. These tricks about your AC from the Department of Energy help you keep an eye out on your AC unit. Save yourself the trouble of needing maintenance during the busy months for air conditioning repair.

1. The Leaky AC. One of the biggest issues often seen in high energy seasons is actually fluid leaking from your AC unit. Usually this is just water, and if you’ve had someone in to provide air conditioning repair services then you may have heard that your drainage duct is overflowing. Repeated cooling in humid seasons can cause the drainage duct blockage. It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on out on the drainage duct for that reason, and save yourself from potential water damage!

2. On Again, Off Again. You know how you can tell when the air conditioner kicks on, that little whirr it does, and then less than a minute later it kicks right off? Usually that’s a sign that your air conditioner’s sensor is having issues and should be given a look. A broken or out of place sensor can lead to an increase in problems down the line if not taken care of right away.

3. Dead, or Alive? Sometimes the air conditioner just won’t turn on, or seemingly won’t turn on. This can be caused by several factors that prevent your air conditioner from running properly, and you should consult a professional just in case. One of these sources can be that your compression fan has just worn out, a frequent problem seen in oversized units.

4. Don’t Go Big. In the case of a Centralized AC unit you really don’t want to get one that’s too large for your home, or you’ll find yourself calling the repairman far more frequently than your liking. A unit too large often turns on and off with far more frequency than a unit on the smaller side, so when you’re purchasing save yourself the trouble and don’t go big.

There is a lot that goes into a functioning AC unit, and a lot that goes into diagnosing the needs of maintenance. Busy season isn’t fun for everyone, but as long as you know the signs to look for you can get a hold of places like DC Cheek Heating & Cooling easily enough before a minor problem, becomes a major one.
